NORTHERN LIGHTS LOUNGE DETROIT

Update April 13, 2019

It’s been awhile since I updated this post. I am still at the Northern Lights Lounge every Tuesday starting at 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Theo Spight has moved on but I still have Pat Smillie on the first two Tuesdays and Lady Champagne on the second two Tuesdays. I have one CD out on Omnivore Records titled “Live at Baker”s and a CD titled “Down by the River” coming out on Detroit Music Factory/Mack Avenue Records the end of April.

You can buy for my new CDs by clicking 1 of the images below.

For a more complete offering of the works of Dennis Coffey on Amazon click the image below.

My hit Scorpio is found on the Evolution Album. You can purchase the album by clicking on the image below.

I wrote and recorded the Main Theme and Love Theme for the film Black Belt Jones. Click on the image below to purchase the video.

After four nights at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, I am back at Northern Lights Lounge. My first set starts at 8:00pm. The place fills up before the end of the first set, so be there early to get a good seat and feel free to say hello. LadyChampagne will be appearing the third Tuesday of each month at the Northern Lights Lounge in Detroit starting this Tuesday. Pat Smillie appears with me the first Tuesday of every month. My stepson DJ Jeffrey Felch is hosting an event on every Sunday at the Northern Lights Lounge. It is an all vinyl event. Theo Spight will be performing with me the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

NORTHERN LIGHTS LOUNGE
Situated in the heart of the New Center District in midtown Detroit at Baltimore and Second is the Northern Lights Lounge. I play there with my group every Tuesday night. This is my sixth year.

They held a benefit for Funk Brother Eddie Willis there last summer. Melvin Davis has performed there and James Jamerson Jr. has played with me there too. Members of the Velvelettes and Vandellas have also performed with my band. The Motown Museum is two miles away and they send people to Northern Lights after they tour the museum which is a must see for any true Motown fan. The museum attracts people from all over the world and they love to hear me play songs I originally recorded in Studio A at Motown. Northern Lights Lounge has an extensive drink list and serves great food. Their food and drinks are also reasonably priced.

Current members of my band are Phil Whitfield on keyboards, Chuck Bartels on bass, and Jason Gittinger on drums. These guys can play anything and they sure are funky. We usually play from 8:00pm until 11:30pm but have been known to play a few encore songs if asked by the audience. I try to create the same kind of music atmosphere that I enjoyed working at Motown as a Funk Brother and playing at Morey Baker’s with Lyman Woodard on B3 organ and Melvin Davis on drums and vocals. Detroit is still a great music town! People still show up to hear live music so come on down and experience one of the best kept secrets in Detroit.
